Built by US Steel in 1917 and operated many years. Some of the best and largest coal seams in the area. The Lynch Preperation Plant was once the largest in the world. People from all over the world worked the mines at Lynch. Probably as many ethnic groups as New York City and one of the best examples of the term melting pot. No doubt these were some of the most successful and productive mines of the time. There are still many of the different cultures and people still living in the Lynch, Benham and Cumberland areas.
